More than just the land of pineapples, surfers, sunshine and shakas … Waikiki in Hawaii has some great eateries to enjoy pre- and post- relaxing on the beach.
A few of the spots Rachel and Laura recommend after a girl’s trip to the island recently are…
Island Vintage Coffee
Fancy a fresh and fruity acai bowl to start the day? We’d suggest you head to Island Vintage Coffee, where you can get various different takes on the standard purple variety, sprinkled with their famous granola.
The bowls are definitely ‘super size’ à la America, so if you want to sample their equally epic savoury options (in the form of overflowing filled bagels), we recommend you take a friend along to share all the deliciousness with! Said friend is also necessary to secure your outdoor table – they’re hot property – while you order the goods.
Never one to disappoint, Bills is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner – and we can say from experience, each meal is as good as the others! The décor is tropically inspired with high ceilings, light-wood, sea green furnishings and an eclectic mix of blue, black and green coloured, ceramic plates decorating the space.
Nobu. Maybe one of the most well-known restaurants in the world, so naturally we didn’t want to miss out on the Hawaiian edition.
This version of the modern, Japanese-influenced restaurant is typical of the restaurant brand, with large, heavy, wooden tables and dark, metallic accents. The menu was split down the middle, with “The Classic Nobu” dishes on one side and local Hawaiian flavours and cooking styles on the other.
Some of the main items we ordered were the sashimi, Honolulu black pepper cod, balsamic teriyaki and seared beef. For dessert, (nope, bikini season didn’t stop us) the Drunken Cherry Tobanyaki with amaretto gelato and the Bento Box, Valrhona dark chocolate fondant, goma tuile and imperial green-tea gelato were our picks. Heavenly.
Pressed Juicery Freeze
Move over fro-yo! Spoonable juice from the Pressed Juicery is what we all need right now.
The soft-serves on offer are made from real fruit, nuts and vegetables, and are actually delicious! 😋 So, if you’re game to hunt down this gem in the largest shopping mall in Hawaii, Ala Moana Shopping Centre, you’re in for a treat.
Not quite a restaurant but definitely an entertaining and fun Hawaiian experience, is a sunset cruise. They are usually all you can drink and eat, and one of the best ways to take in the sights and beauty of the island’s coast and Diamond Head.
Buy tickets online or on the beach of the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
