At the heart of Sydney’s eastern suburb of Double Bay, you’ll find the trendy and well established cafe, Indigo. We arrived at about 11.30, having easily found a car park in a neighbouring street, and enjoying the short stroll there.

Indigo has a European-esque atmosphere to it – like a café on an Amsterdam canal, with the tables on the pedestrian island full. It was bustling, with waiters’ to-ing and fro-ing across the road from the café, with coffee and perfectly cooked brunches.  Given its reputation, we were not surprised to see 10 or so people hovering around the “please wait to be seated sign.” The waiter added us to the list and advised us that the wait would be a short 10 minutes.

Sitting in the middle of the island in the cul-de-sac street, we were promptly waited on by the friendly staff and spoilt for choice with the large menu that included an all day breakfast. Although tempted by the banana pancakes being served at the table next to us, we kept it ‘healthy’ – Claudia opting for the “heart smart egg-white omelette” (kale, grilled zucchini, avocado, tomato, quinoa & baby herbs served with a green juice $24) with a side of hash brown, and myself choosing eggs (dairy free scrambled) on rye ($13.5) with sides of salmon ($6) and avocado ($5).

We loved that that our meals didn’t come out too hastily – it gave us time to catch up and chat while enjoying the Sydney sunshine. My eggs were cooked perfectly and my avo was just right – not brown or overripe, as they are too often served in some cafes. Claudia’s omelette was the winner though; coming in a skillet pan with the green juice alongside.

If you’re looking for a stylish, reliable spot to have a lazy brunch with friends, Indigo is perfect. Expect a short wait for a table, but it’s worth it, and the coffee was good too. We’ll be back for the pancakes, French toast and fresh salads!
