Reasonably priced, fun and wickedly satisfying, Burger Burger is a favourite spot of ours for a simple lunch or dinner.
There’s often a wait for a seat, but this is made bearable given its convenient location in Ponsonby Central and the option you have to grab a drink somewhere nearby. Burger Burger is relatively small with indoor and outdoor flow, and some bar seating where you can watch the bustling kitchen antics.
When we ate here recently, between us we ordered a:
- Beef Burger with savannah grass-fed beef patty with homemade pickles, tomato jam, mustard, mayo and added beetroot ($14);
- Market Fish Burger with panko-crumbed market fish, caper dill mayo, tomato jam, rocket and fresh lemon ($12); and
- Vege ‘bunnuce’ – chickpeas, parsley, coriander, rocket, mustard, tomato jam, feta, beetroot and cumin yoghurt wrapped up in lettuce ($12) – for those who can’t eat bread or would rather the lighter option!
The beef burger was juicy, the fish was fresh and tangy, and the vege bunnance was flavoursome and moist. We also had the crispy potato skins with truffle aioli ($7) (be warned – they are addictive) and the charred broccoli with garlic, butter and almonds ($7).
Alongside the tasty food, they serve up some impressive drinks, with homemade sodas, beers and wine to choose from. I went for the classic burger accomplice – a sweet and scrumptious chocolate milkshake, made with Lewis Road Creamery organic milk and Little Paddock ice-cream ($8).
Our service was quick and friendly.
Overall, it has to be one of our favourite burger joints in town and we think it’s well worth trying out, if you haven’t already!
